RIP Buddy MacMaster

RIP Buddy MacMaster

RIP Buddy at 89. To me he will always be the king of the Cape Breton fiddlers and always a gentleman as well as a beautiful player. Heard his fiddle on the radio this morning and knew I would be bad news.

Re: RIP Buddy MacMaster

Ah, sad to hear that. I have enjoyed his playing ever since I started listening to Cape Breton music a few years ago. RIP Buddy.

Re: RIP Buddy MacMaster

Sorry to hear. He will always be a legendary Cape Breton fiddler.

Re: RIP Buddy MacMaster

Great clip Weejie of a true legend.
Thanks.

Re: RIP Buddy MacMaster

Sad news indeed.

Re: RIP Buddy MacMaster

Hugh Alan "Buddy" MacMaster, CM ONS (October 18, 1924 - August 20, 2014) was one of the most renowned artists in the tradition of Cape Breton fiddle music.

Re: RIP Buddy MacMaster

Another great one gone. R.I.P. Buddy.

Re: RIP Buddy MacMaster

If I remember correctly, he played on at least one track on the "Down Home - Recordings" compilation with French-Canadian and Cape Breton music (the occasional bluegrass band was there as well).

The tune he played was Glencoe:

I can’t remember the name of the follow-up reel. Great tunes, both of them.

Re: RIP Buddy MacMaster

Thanks for all the great music Buddy, you will always be in our ears, our hearts, and our feet… One of the best long interviews I ever made, great stories, his-story, music ~ a crying shame the sub zero cold weather and our poorly heated VW camper had caused the recorder to malfunction… 🙁 His bow is a blessing that will always be with us all, his inspirations wide…

Thanks Buddy RIP

Re: RIP Buddy MacMaster

Some more Buddy info; CBC Cape Breton radio had a lot on the radio this week about him…..online here in four parts. They were also planning to broadcast all or part of the funeral today, I wasn’t able to tune in so not sure what they did. http://www.cbc.ca/mainstreetcb/

There has also been a good bit of coverage on the Cape Breton Post as well if anyone is interested.
