Help with ABC

Help with ABC

I have just tried to submit a tune in Bmajor, but this is not available in the list of keys - does anybody know how to go about that?

Re: Help with ABC

You could either

a) submit it in E major and mark on the relevant accidentals (i.e the A#). If there are in fact no A#s in the tune, but the key is still B major, this is perhaps a good way to go,.
b) transpose it down to A major and submit it that way.

Here’s an example of a tune in B: https://thesession.org/tunes/5270

Bmix is another option instead of Emaj.

Re: Help with ABC

Don’t know why that hasn’t occured to me, I’ll try the first option- Emajor with the A#’s. Not the most common of keys, but it’s like this on the CD. Thanks a lot, Tom!

Re: Help with ABC

You could ask Jeremy if it’s ok to add "K: B" just before the abcs (you could do it without asking, but that’s uncivil).

Re: Help with ABC

If you got it from a CD, it’s also quite possible that the tune is actually in a very usual key but played on a transposing instrument (like whistle or pipes in B etc.). I don’t know the tune nor the CD of course, it’s just a possibility to consider.

Played on hardingfele - often tuned a full tone up from fiddle, though string intervals vary considerably, the instrument tuned to suit the tune.
