Does anyone recognise this hornpipe?

Re: Does anyone recognise this hornpipe?

I don’t no, but it is not a hornpipe.

I don’t recognise it either. But it is a hornpipe. Just not as you know them, g-i-t-n. Old, English hornpipes were, at least at one time, played straight and with exactly that sort of rhythm. It’s not an Irish hornpipe, is all.

Re: Does anyone recognise this hornpipe?

It sounds like a version of De’il Amang The Tailors or Devil’s Dream https://thesession.org/tunes/259 (posted here as a hornpipe, but more often playe as a reel) . It sounds like it probably came from a 17th or 18th Century manuscript - quite different from the ‘modern’ versions.

Re: Does anyone recognise this hornpipe?

Thank you very much!

Yes, I think you’re right. It does seem to be a version of Devil Among The Tailors. I’ve looked through all of the old manuscripts that have the tune and none of them seems to have a version like this, so maybe it was just altered by whomever is playing.
