tunes that send a shiver down your spine

tunes that send a shiver down your spine

today, as I was trying to get some work done on my computer, I was listening to some trad. Irish songs on YouTube. the playlist turned suddenly to a beautiful rendition of ‘she moved through the fair’, being sung by Mary Black. I hadn’t heard that tune for many years, and listening to it sent shivers all down my spine, making me feel very nostalgic and slightly sad. slow, slightly melancholy tunes have always had this effect on me, and I was wondering if anybody could suggest any similar tunes (not necessarily songs) that have the same affect on them.

thanks

..and applause for Dennis Cahill on this recording because it doesn’t
even sound like accompaniment. It’s so integrated.

Oops, that wasn’t it. It’s very cold this morning so I’m shivering anyway.
Sorry, cannot find the spine-tingling tune online ~ An Buachaillín Bán on Callan Bridge

Amazing Grace.

This came across my FB feed yesterday (a public post, not You Tube.) Although this is not an Irish tune, it’s everyone’s tune, and this always does for me what you see happening in the audience. Of course there’s the story behind it too, and I’m sharing this one because of the instruments!

There was an option to embed it too. Not sure about how that works…

For me, the chill always comes when listening to the album by Planxty, at the moment The Raggle Taggle Gypsy ends, and Liam O’Flynn starts into Give Me Your Hand. Gorgeous!

A song rather than a tune: while I’m a ‘religion is the opiate of the masses’ sort, I still love Iarla Ó Lionáird’s version of ‘Caoineadh na dTrí Mhuire’ : https://youtu.be/hAP0o7Hnn5Y

In the late 1990s I saw a programme with him doing a great version of it a cappella. Can’t remember the channel or the name of the programme, but it prompted me to get his solo CD.

‘Caoineadh na dTrí Mhuire’ can be convincingly transposed to fiddle as well:
