Tunes id and about Catskills

Tunes id and about Catskills

Hi everyone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI9mY3oQW0k

I’ve heard the first one somewhere… and I don’t know the 2nd one. Gosh all those players knowing all the tunes and not the common one but the geeky one. I am feeling almost jealous because those people from catskills seems to know all the good tunes ! ๐Ÿ˜‰ What do the irish think about this festival ? I am always impressed when I watch their videos. Always learning new tunes because of them ๐Ÿ˜‰

Re: Tunes id and about Catskills

I don’t think anyone in that video is actually *from* the Catskills.

The first is Chief O’Neill’s favourite, pretty common really. The second one is also relatively common, but not one I’d think of usually: https://thesession.org/tunes/652

I don’t know that I’d call either one "geeky", but knowing most of the people in the video, it’s probably a fairly apt description ๐Ÿ˜€

(I would say that some of the other videos of those people have some nice geeky tunes, though!)

Re: Tunes id and about Catskills

If you can pick up tunes by ear and have access to https://tunepal.org/index.html#!/record, it usually takes a couple of minutes to learn enough notes and have tunepal find the name, which is what I did for the second tune, it’s the plains of Boyle, it also worked when just playing the youtube clip into tunepal (I had to do it twice)

Regarding Catskills, there does seem to be an awful lot of young talented musicians at that festival and especially the fiddlers, I say that just by listening to the videos on youtube.

Re: Tunes id and about Catskills

I agree, Tim Raab’s videos are really well done. Ha! That one has one of our local players on box.

I went for the first time last year, and am going again this year. Amazing gathering of musicians, young and old. Only a little over a week away, I can’t wait.
