The Perfect Speed (For me anyway)

The Perfect Speed (For me anyway)

The discussion often comes up on here from time to time about the speed/tempo that tunes are played at. Some like them fast, some like them slow. I came across this clip on U Tube recently and as far as I’m concerned this is the perfect tempo for playing reels that you can sit back, relax and listen to. It’s a shame that they got the names wrong and maybe the person who put them up on U Tube will edit and correct. Meanwhile listen to this great rendition of Reels : - Paddy Kelly’s/The Log Cabin and Mayor Harrison’s Fedora……

Re: The Perfect Speed (For me anyway)

Lovely playing. From her lovely CD, An Traidisiún Beo.
She has a very relaxed way of playing.
Great phrasing. Sense of spaciousness.
I love it.

Re: The Perfect Speed (For me anyway)

Every time I hear her play, I am struck by the elegance of her music. She always gives the tune its due.

Re: The Perfect Speed (For me anyway)

Lovely playing but very little difference in tempo or swing between the Hornpipe and Reel. Or were they Reels? but incorrectly categorised by whoever put them on you tube.

Re: The Perfect Speed (For me anyway)

As Free Reed pointed out the tunes are incorrectly listed on you-tube. They are all reels: Paddy Kelly’s
The Log Cabin
Mayor Harrison’s Fedora
Michele Sims: elegance is the exact right word.

Re: The Perfect Speed (For me anyway)

Perfect combination of instruments too, box and banjo.
