Frank Roche’s Collection of Traditional Irish Music, 1912

Frank Roche’s Collection of Traditional Irish Music, 1912

Does anyone know where I could find a PDF version of Frank Roche’s Collection of Traditional Irish Music, published in 1912?
Many thanks in advance.

The individual scores on the ITMA site can be downloaded as PDFs. But only one tune at a time.
On planetgnome’s link each score has an adobe icon at the top of the page ~

Another way to download a pdf is through this link ~
http://www.itma.ie/digitallibrary/score/roche_vol-1_1-100
You won’t be able to view the interactive scores (on this link) unless you have the Sibelius Scorch plugin
*But* there is a pdf link at the bottom, right corner of each page (Score for printing) ~

Re: Frank Roche’s Collection of Traditional Irish Music, 1912

Bill Black does have a large collection of abc transcriptions from many, many, many tune collections.
He continues to maintain the big book though it’s gone through a series of changes over the years.

Best I can tell his site currently has a useful abc (.txt) file of Roche’s first volume;

http://www.capeirish.com/webabc/tune-abc222/roche2.222.txt

If I am not mistaken the file has 199 tunes in abc format.
This might help in sorting those abcs, relative to how they appear in vol. 1 of the Roche series.

@Ben: "The individual scores on the ITMA site can be downloaded as PDFs. But only one tune at a time."

Sort of. ;~) If you have wget (or curl) and poppler-utils installed on your OS, you can bunch-download and concatenate them to a single big PDF file from the Bash, like

wget https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/itma.dl.scores/r1_{001..199}.pdf
pdfunite r1_*.pdf roche.pdf

… and Bäm! there you go. On Unix systems the above tools should be installed by default — on windows it might require some fiddling though.

Cheers, Sebastian

Always appreciate a good lead. Especially when it’s through GNU. ~

sebastian the m3g4p0p, I appreciate learning about wget & poppler though I have to admit
(after trying them* out with ITMA’s Frank Roche Collection) I have yet to come up with a compelling reason
to apply them (at least not for now w/my system). Having said that I have no doubt wget can be a useful,
versatile tool in the right hands depending on how other applications are included , etc.

*about poppler… I didn’t actually get very far w/it. Just far enough to let me know I have enough (tools/toys)
to work with for the time being.

It took me forever but I did manage to generate a list of pdf links from the ITMA Roche Collection, download them using wget & merge the lot into a single pdf w/ghostscript. Doing it all on Windows 8.1 It’s easier than it looks
(but only in hindsight).
