seeking banjo teacher in SF bay area

seeking banjo teacher in SF bay area

I’m looking for an irish tenor banjo teacher anywhere in the bay area. Intermediate level, trying to build my repertoire, improve tone and technique, and build speed.

Thanks in advance!

Re: seeking banjo teacher in SF bay area

The best way to build speed in my experience is to play slow. Sounds counterintuitive I know, but until you can play cleanly at a slow tempo you will never be able to be relaxed enough to play faster. Good luck and have fun!

Hunt down Dave Cory if you possibly can. He periodically appears at sessions at the Plough is SF. He’s awesome.

I second looking up Dave Cory. He is a great player, and I learned some good stuff from him. He’s living in Oakland now, I believe. You should be able to find him on facebook and PM him.
