g minor/major tunes

g minor/major tunes

I really like paddy kellys, red tom of the hills, the girl who broke my heart etc… does anyone have any nice tunes in that sort of ambiguous key?

Re: g minor/major tunes

G minor is a real bitch …

Re: g minor/major tunes

"I find setting #7 of the Paddy Fahy jig (the one that Kevin Burke recorded) darker than the one in pure minor."

I agree. Kevin Burke’s recording is where I first learned the tune, and that has remained my preferred version to play. (No surprise, then, that when I looked up setting #7, it turns out that I posted it.)

Re: g minor/major tunes

My favourite version of "Paddy Fahy’s"jig - 1m45s ……1m 52s "Yes, Byrnes !!!!"

To reply to the initial request - just about anything composed by Paddy Fahy would fit the bill.
And as I listen to the clip of Martin Byrnes, "Eileen Curran" [ 2m59s ] would also fit. [ Already suggested by "MD" above, I now see. ]

Re: g minor/major tunes

Thanks a lot everyone! Lots of familiar tunes. I’d forgotten the nervous man altogether a beautiful tune. And a few new ones to look at. I’ve got a feeling if I learn Eileen Curran it’ll unravel about three other tunes but it might be fun to try and see.
