mandolin.tab ABC converter

mandolin.tab ABC converter

Does anyone have any idea what’s going on with this app? Stopped working about three days ago and sends some kind of error message about the server not understanding the file format (or something to that effect). This is a great converter and I’d hate to see it sunk without trace like so many other ABC programs.

I just noticed the same thing. I used it and a day later — error message. I sure hope it’s just temporary.

Re: mandolin.tab ABC converter

I’m getting a < 400 Bad Request > error.

Re: mandolin.tab ABC converter

I contacted Simon before this thread was started and he seemed a bit ambivalent about it - said he hand’t looked at the site for a few years.
I downloaded this converter http://www.nilsliberg.se/ksp/easyabc/ and actually find it to be better for my needs than mandolintab. An advantage is that it works offline. Not sure I’ll go back to Simon’s one again even if he fixes it.

Re: mandolin.tab ABC converter

The nice thing about mandolin.tab ABC converter was that you could convert to mandolin/tenor banjo TAB as well as dots. For the few of us who have learned with and feel comfortable with tab - this was great. I could then open it as a PDF on my iPad within the wonderful app ForScore and save and modify it there. It was a super fast easy way to work with and store my tunes on the iPad.

I have looked as easyabc and although it looks like a great converter, unfortunately I don’t see that you can produce TAB with it. I guess I’m going to have to just bite the bullet and make an effort to learn dots or ABC. If anyone knows of another converter that can produce mandolin tab, please let me know. I can do it in Tabledit but it takes a LOT more steps to get it onto my iPad.

Re: mandolin.tab ABC converter

EasyABC can be "extended" with format files. Long thread on this subject here: https://thesession.org/discussions/30356.
You could take a look at some of these sites (skip mandolintab.net for now - it’s broke as noted above):
http://www.jerrydallal.com/abc.htm
http://hightechchat.reocities.com/Nashville/6390/
http://www.tabledit.com
the latest versions of EasyABC are here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/easyabc/ , http://www.nilsliberg.se/ksp/easyabc/ is the old version.
If you’re a Macintosh person and want the Command-H to work in EasyABC, I have a shell script you can run that will fix that in the EasyABC Python code.

There still aren’t any tab format files on the web for abc notation. I’d care more about tabs but having the score from the abc code as dots on the screen/paper has allowed me to learn to read music just barely well enough to play ITM type music. Ever so infrequently, I’ll refer to a tab but I prefer to work out the mechanics of finger position/progression by myself.

Re: mandolin.tab ABC converter ~ RIP

mandolintab.net’s demise is a sad though likely understandable outcome in the evolution of online abc utilities.
All things must pass, inevitably.

Re: mandolin.tab ABC converter

callison, the abcm2ps format files I have (I think the std abcm2ps flute plus mandolin and various ocarinas are temporarily at http://www.jonbanjo.com/temp/fmt.zip
The file tabnames should give an idea as to what is in each file.

Re: mandolin.tab ABC converter

I think mandolintab is back now.

Re: mandolin.tab ABC converter
