Sessions in Brittany

Sessions in Brittany

We plan to go to Brittany at the beginning of August, arriving at 1st of August at the north, having anti-clockwise round trip for a week or a little longer. We can modify our travel plan a bit to make some sessions available, though the starting date is firm (kids would like to see Paris before heading to Brittany). What sessions are active and you would recommend them? We are concertina/fiddle couple btw.

Thanks

If the list on this site is up to date, we might start here

and finish the week here:

and maybe fitting on of these in between:

Re: Sessions in Brittany

You’d better have a look to this website to check which session is still active or not : http://www.bzh-session.org/?cat=7 , as far as I know all informations there are up to date.
The leaders of the session in Gâvres are playing very good music, and this place at the entry of Lorient’s harbour is beautiful.
And if you’re still around at the begining of the festival interceltique de Lorient, you’ll find sessions every night in town.

Re: Sessions in Brittany

I spent an August in Brittany five years ago and offer found many session dead ends-either sessions that went inactive or the regular crew away for Holliday, but I also found great players/sessions. The key for me was making that first contact and then getting advice and phone numbers, in short I think starting in Rennes is your best bet for active music and contacts.

Re: Sessions in Brittany

Hi !

As it was said, be careful ! a lot of sessions are down during summer months, so you’d better try to contact hosts. For instance, I’m confident you won’t find anybody playing at the Cité d’Ys in Rennes if you go in August !
There are two (very nice though) weekly sessions running in Rennes through July and August : Sunday at O’Connell’s (around 8-9pm), and Saturday noon (12am) at Fox and Friends. But that doesn’t seem to fit in your planning unfortunately.
Anyway given these dates, you should definitely try to see the festival in Lorient.

Enjoy Brittany !
