Cape Breton tune question

Cape Breton tune question

There is a tune, and it is driving me nuts. It’s a great little strathspey, it’s played here in CB, but it’s always called Traditional Strathspey, and I’d like to know if anyone knows it by another name. The Cape Breton fiddle index has it as being recorded by three folks, Wendy MacIsaac, and Kinnon and Andrea Beaton (http://www.cbfiddle.com/rx/tune/t1810.html) . Here on the Session, for Andrea’s CD the Tap Session, it may be called New Years Day, but that seems to be a different tune. The tune list for that CD seems to have issues.

It is similar to Cawdor Fair, and Andrea plays Cawdor Fair before this tune on that CD (on the cut called The Oldies; it’s on Spotify). Anyway, I find it weird that it has never seemingly had a name attached.
Here is a version by Beolach, starting at around 4:45, and also a clip of Kinnon and Andrea playing it at a house party. If anyone knows the tune, I’m interested in anything you know about it. Thanks.

Re: Cape Breton tune question

Sounds like the love-child of Cawdor Fair and Cutting Ferns. I know that’s a big help; you’re welcome.

Re: Cape Breton tune question

You’re right, of course.
