John of Gods
Does anyone know where I could get the words of a song called John of God’s which is a parody of John of Dreams. I believe that the parody was done by Johnny Moynihan many years ago, possibly in the 1970s. Any ideas?

You’d probably get more help asking at “The Mudcat Cafe”. They’re more song-oriented.
Might you mean “John of Dreams?” Mick Moloney and Eugene O’Donnell recorded it years ago. [https://thesession.org/recordings/564]
It’s absolutely beautiful. Tchaikovsky and Bill Caddick.

Thank’s to all for your help. For the record, Gonzo got the right one!
That’s a funny thread - I like the piss take on that awful dirge, the Fields of Athenry which is maudlin, sentimental guff. If I’m watching a match on TV and the crowd start singing it, it’s instant mute. Funnily the GAA fans don’t seem to have in their repertoire - it’s the Irish soccer and rugby crowds that flog it to death.
For another parody of John o’ Dreams, try Les Barker’s “Custard Creams”.
And yes, the tune is stolen from 1st movement of Tchaikovsky’s 6th (Pathetique, innit?)- but then maybe Peter Ilyich got it from a folk musician?
