A tune identity

Re: A tune identity

Looking at irishtune.info it seems this is an untitled hornpipe recorded only by Planxty on this one album. It apparently has a distant relationship to Cronin’s.

Re: A tune identity

Hi "postie" - there’s a bit more information about the 2nd hornpipe on the LP sleeve - as follows :
Liam O’Flynn writes :
"This tune is one of many I have learned from Junior Crehan from Co. Clare. Junior tells me he heard the tune from the late Denis Murphy, Co. Kerry, who brought the tune back from America. Junior had no name for the tune".

Re: A tune identity

Thanks Kenny. I had read that and was hoping to hear from you. I was hoping also to hear if any more had surfaced in the meantime. Time now for the Slow Downer treatment. :)

Re: A tune identity

Hi "postie" - Peter Laban, a former member here, sent me an email identifying the 2nd hornpipe as "Corney Drew’s". He said it was in "O’Neill’s 1001", and I checked - #903 it is - thanks should go to him.
