Dorian is my favorite overall, but mixolydian is my favorite to just punch out on a fiddle and go wild with.

I do so hate statistical mode.

Being a piper, I have a love for the mode/scale so many old (and new) pipe tunes are in

Airs, piobaireachd, strathspeys, marches, jigs, reels, it’s all good if it’s in this scale.

Also the odd-sounding old mode/scale a number of very old tunes use, which modern composers still use from time to time:

G A B C# D E F# g

G Lydian. G Major is the tonic chord (of course) but what’s interesting is that usually an A Major chord functions as the dominant, the usual chord progression (as suggested by the melody) being G Major > A Major > G Major.
