Good internet radio for ‘proper trad’ : Celtic Trad Radio

Good internet radio for ‘proper trad’ : Celtic Trad Radio

My current ‘go to’ internet music “Celtic Trad Radio” is much better than I expected from the title.
The emphasis is on the ‘Trad’ , don’t be put off by the ‘Celtic’ in the title! All traditional music, all instrumental ( can’t recall any songs). Mostly Irish but some others. I’m especially enjoying some of the Cape Breton played. Maybe a few contemporary arrangements and recently written tunes, but definitely all fits the traditional genre. No new age celtic nonsense, or pub rock rebel songs found elsewhere on the internet under Irish Folk etc. (Still also listen to Clare FM, and various RTE etc as well of course).

Find it here:

Adverts (of course), but not too intrusive.
I’ll be interested what others make of it.

Yup.

Celtic Trad looks good. I wish we had a similar one for English music, but there is no commercial market for us. I don’t even think there’s a Welsh one, despite their celtic racial descent.

Re: Good internet radio for ‘proper trad’ : Celtic Trad Radio

PS. Can we still get Clare FM online? I remember that last time I tried, the result was not successful …

@Graham Currie: Thanks for this recommendation - I followed your link, had Celtic Trad Radio on for some of the day, and liked what I heard.

Thanks AB, I’ll have another go.

This radio station is bangin! Where I’m from that means it’s the good stuff! Thank you so much for sharing! Now I have a radio station to listen to while I’m at work 🙂

Re: Good internet radio for ‘proper trad’ : Celtic Trad Radio

I cannot listen to that station in India, too bad. I still listen to Clare FM, and the back archived podcasts of Mike Harding. Ebor_Fiddler, you might take a listen to Mike. He’s not totally trad but usually guaranteed good music.

Hi Guys,
Larry from Celtic Trad Radio here. Thanks for all the kind words, and glad you’re liking the station. No, no songs at all (they’re only on Celtic Songstress Radio, and only the female type at that!), no new age, etc. We admit that some creeps towards the contemporary, and we even rock out a bit with some groups like Gaelic Storm and Old Blind Dogs from time to time, but that’s about as far as we stray from essentially a Trad core. Sometimes it’s a tough call, but we try to keep it at least arguably Trad.
By the way, there’s no income whatsoever involved in this, just a labor of love. However, we do have to meet a minimum threshold of listeners to keep the station on the air, so tell your friends!
All the best,
Larry
