Thanks

Re: Strathspey identification help

Don’t know what it is but I like it. Where did you find it?

Re: Strathspey identification help

As a strathspey I don’t recognise it, but if I play it in reel time it rings a bell. If the source pops into my head I shall report back…

Re: Strathspey identification help

Didn’t there used to be a facility here for searching fragments of "ABC"?
I can’t find it now.

Re: Strathspey identification help

Yes, you just put an ABC fragment into the search box on the Tunes page. But I haven’t had any joy with that or JC’s tunefinder.

Re: Strathspey identification help

No result from Reverend’s Abc Tune Search either.

Re: Strathspey identification help

Mark M: I’ve no idea where it came from. I’ve been playing it in a march, strathspey and reel set for many years and none of the folk I play it with can remember where it came from either.

Calum: Thanks.

Johnny, Jeff: I tried putting the dots in the few tune search places that I’m aware of and had no luck either.

Re: Strathspey identification help

It bears a strong resemblance to the tune that starts thus:
X:2
R:strathspey
M:4/4
L:1/8
K:Amix
|: A2 e>A c>B A>c | e2 a>e f>e c<e | d2 f>d c2 a>c | B>d c>e (3Bcd G>B | …

But I don’t know the name of it, I don’t know where I’ve heard it and I can’t remember how the rest of it goes. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Re: Strathspey identification help

Got it! *The Duke of Edinburgh*. It’s the first strathspey in Ceol na Fidhle Vol. IV. Here’s how it appears in the Book:

Re: Strathspey identification help

Brilliant detective work, thank you very much.

Re: Strathspey identification help

Now add both settings to the tune DB, and make everyone happy. 🙂

Re: Strathspey identification help

Was planning to add them this weekend.
