Wonderful version, and good sound quality
but I being young and foolish with her did not agree…………… immortal line.
The North Texas Gaelic Youth Chorus would have been in for a rude awakening if they had wandered into Minnie’s place back in the day. Pat Mahon and company keeping it real: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdGfIaxyrKQ
are we supposed to make an unfavourable comparison between the Texas Gaelic Youth Choir and the pub sess [stereo spoons anyone?] they are at opposite poles on the spectrum of Irish music but both have a place
> are we supposed to make an unfavourable comparison between the Texas Gaelic Youth Choir and the pub sess
Any comparison is going to be unfavourable in some possible interpretation, almost guaranteed for any comparison that does not result in the detection of equality. Any such interpretation is generated by you the reader. It is solely your responsibility.
> they are at opposite poles on the spectrum of Irish music but both have a place
This is your value judgement on your metric. Why is it a spectrum?
> stereo spoons anyone?
If I understand this Americanism properly, then you’re being a bit hypocrtical are you not?
I thought the lassie playing the whistle plays it better than I do on the flute. I listened to it carefully a few times. The other video made me wonder why I gave up the drink.
Steady on chaps, it was intended to be a lighthearted thread :(
>bwat, not sure what point you’re trying to make - I obviously rattled your cage somehow. I liked the Youth Choir’s take on Sally Gardens, the pub session presented as the ‘real thing’ was difficult listening - the flute player was good but with the background of rattling spoons and the roaring of the drinkers at the bar it didn’t make for enjoyable music- my subjective opinion, don’t know where hypocrisy comes into it. End of story.
Murnie J, thanks for posting.
You’re welcome
The hypocricy is your admonishing others with regards to comparison of two performances which you then go on to do yourself, twice.
nae idea what all this shouting is about but I’m pretty sure none of us are going to be thinking of it twenty years from now
you are right Calum, wish I had never got involved !
