A Hundred Pipers & Booth Shot Lincoln

A Hundred Pipers & Booth Shot Lincoln

I think the Old-Time tune "Booth Shot Lincoln" is somehow related to "A Hundred Pipers".
What do you think about it?

Re: A Hundred Pipers & Booth Shot Lincoln

yes its basically the same melody changed from 6/8 to 4/4. Well spotted - I hadnt noticed the similarity before!

Re: A Hundred Pipers & Booth Shot Lincoln

I thought this was a new conspiracy theory/joke.

Re: A Hundred Pipers & Booth Shot Lincoln

I didn’t know the latter tune before but found this ideo clip.

I agree, it is the same basic melody in a different rhythm. There is nothing especially surprising in this - a great many Old Time tunes are (sometimes only very slightly) modified versions of English, Irish and Scots tunes.

Re: A Hundred Pipers & Booth Shot Lincoln

It is well-established that Booth, and Booth only, shot Lincoln - the so-called "Hundred Pipers" were, um, "rehearsing", on the other side of town at the time.

Re: A Hundred Pipers & Booth Shot Lincoln

Yes, but then there were sightings of a uillean piper on a grassy knoll with a sight line into the theatre …

Thanx all for the responses!
Two of you agreed with me,
three of you discovered a great line of joke out of the title of this discussion!
I might use this joke probably in some related essay or article in the near future ~ ;)

Re: A Hundred Pipers & Booth Shot Lincoln

I might use it even as the title for an article !
