Longest tune title

Longest tune title

Cf the lovely Irish tune about the magic mist coming down (and of which in my old age I can’t remember the title). Any suggestions??

Re: Longest tune title

i believe the longest tune title may be "Sir B McKenzie’s Daughter’s lament for the Seventy-Seventh Mounted Lancers’ Retreat from the Straits of Loch Knombe in the Year of Our Lord Seventeen Twenty Seven on the Occasion of the Announcement of her marriage to the Laird of Kinleakie". however some concern was expressed on this board that it _might_ not be an entirely genuine traditional title.. Re: Longest tune title

Some good titles there: one session I go to is frequented by a certain player of concertina, fiddle, and melodeon and he probably could outdo some of those for length. He has that reputation, anyway!

Re: Longest tune title

I’ve always found "I Have a House with a Chimney Built on Top of It" to be such a funny, unnecessarily long one.

I’m surprised noone has mentioned The Humours of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch yet. Not sure about the mist thing though.

Tune 6873 : Squire Wood’s Lamentation on the Refusal of His Halfpence - by Carolan. There’s a story behind this one but as usual it has gone from my head …

Re: Longest tune title

Wow, that "HUMOURS" tune sounds long, and also very Welsh.

Re: Longest tune title

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but the other day I saw an entry for Miss Johnson of Pitworth, with one alternative title: "A Howie Tune, Alexander Dawn, The Earl Of Dirleton, Miss Johnson Of Pitsworth, Miss Johnson Pitworth, Mrs. Johnson Of Pitsworth". Obviously a mistake (additional titles have to be on separate lines).
