Weekend workshops UK

Weekend workshops UK

I’m looking for an Irish fiddle weekend workshop, where I could learn more about the techniques involved in bringing out the style of trad.

I’ve been googling, but finding old outdated websites and nothing current. Can anyone direct me to the right place to look?

Thanks!!

Re: Weekend workshops UK

I attended the Dunoon Scottish Music Workshop last year and thoroughly enjoyed it (I was playing flute/whistle but they do fiddle & guitar too). I’m abroad this year unfortunately, otherwise I would definitely go again.

The fiddle tutor is Alistair McCulloch.

I know it’s in Scotland and Dunoon might seem difficult to get to (dead easy from Glasgow), but it’s worth having a look.

Scots Fiddle Festival: 3rd weekend in November in Edinburgh. There is usually some Irish content in this festival. This year’s programme not yet announced but you can sign up for updates here: https://www.scotsfiddlefestival.com/

Re: Weekend workshops UK

When I used to play fiddle people used to mention fiddle hell which I think moved around but I never went.

Re: Weekend workshops UK

Hello Heydiddle,

The Buxton Fiddle Hell is on this year. There are no workshops as such, and the theme is not exclusively Irish Traditional fiddle, but myself and other experienced players are happy to help out with any questions on technique. It’s all free too.

It’s happening on June 14-16 at Gilbert’s in Buxton [ 5-5a High Street, Buxton SK17 6ET ]

There’s a Facebook page too : https://www.facebook.com/groups/FHBuxton/
