Looking for some examples to listen to, for northern styled flute playing. By northern style I mean more punchy on the style spectrum, so as to not start a debate unintentionally 🙂

Been there nearly 40 years, I think. Announced his retirement just about a year ago.

Conal O’Grada doesn’t need to be north based to be a punchy fluter !
Kevin Henry hails from Sligo/Mayo, and can be considered as a punchy flute player too !
So the unintentionnal debate is open 🙂 !
Perhaps listening to the many volumes of “the wooden flute obsession” would be a good idea ?

@AB. I didn’t hear any flute in the rock performance there. I am assuming you’re trying to convey that the word punchy is not right in some sense and you’re superior for knowing the truth. Congrats, acknowledged. I can bet you know what was meant by punchy in the context of what I posted.
There are more helpful people around thankfully, who are NOT focused on preaching as much as you are. And the music lives on.

Sorry, tradguy. I was not intending to suggest any problem with your asking about punchy fluters. It is a great discussion w/many excellent suggestions which I am confident you appreciate their contributions, as I do too.
