A gathering of thesession.org at Willie Clancy Week?

This year’s Willie Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay is just a week away:

I haven’t been for about fifteen years, but I’ll be back this year: showing up on the Sunday and leaving on the Friday:

Who else is going? And do you fancy meeting up for some tunes?

I don’t know the lay of the land so I wouldn’t be much good at organising anything, but if someone wants to take the lead and nominate a place and time, count me in for a session of thesession.org!

Well I’m not much of a drinking man but I did notice Tom Molones pub was often rather quiet last year . And that’s where we met up a few years ago for the session.org session and is easy to get into and out of , unlike some of the bars!! So it would be my suggestion as to venue . I guess they’re paying no hosts … but they might change policy so bestkeep ears to the ground .
Im up for tunes one afternoon about 2 would be a good starting point maybe 1.30 to be safe .

I’ll be at class out in Spanish Point until 1pm so it might take me a while to get to Tom Malone’s.

We might be advised to get a few there for 1!! By 2 the sessions are going strong in some places ….

I can’t get there early as I’m at the fiddle class

Two of us are here but there are paid musicians arriving at 2pm apparently. I’m not familiar with the venues here so I’ll leave it to someone else to suggest another venue.

Did you have a lot of tunes in common?

We played some classics: The Merry Blacksmith, The Maid Behind The Bar, The Sally Gardens, The Ships Are Sailing, The Foxhunter’s (for a dancer) …those are some of the reels anyway.

Just a thought for those of you lucky enough to be in Miltown today. This being the 12th of July, the flute players have been known to get up to a bit of mischief collectively in "Friel’s" around mid-day. Worth checking out for a bit of fun. Hope it’s going well, sorry I couldn’t make it this year.

Hi Will, yes, that was me on flute. I noticed the Burke - so that was you! I think we exchanged a couple of nods in the midst of things.
