Begins with M?

Begins with M?

I’m trying to find a tune that has a weird-sounding name that begins with M, sounds vaguely like “Muireann’s” but I don’t think that’s it… I don’t even remember what type of tune it is I’m afraid!
If anyone can figure out what the feck I’m on about and name the tune I’ll be mighty grateful!

Re: Begins with M?

No it’s not those, I think there’s a “v”or a v sound in the name. No recording I’m afraid.

Re: Begins with M?

Heydiddle, maybe if you ask Jeremy nicely, he could do a quick database-level query on the tunes database (and maybe you tip a little bit into his site bucket) 🙂

Jeremy - would something like this work?

SELECT * FROM [TunesTable] WHERE [TuneName] LIKE ‘%m%v%’

Mick Marshall’s Melodion.?

Re: Begins with M?

It’s going to be difficult. A lack of the letter “v” in some gaelic languages means the “mh” and other combinations sound like “v”. You won’t be able to search for just the letter as a consequence.

Re: Begins with M?

Would it be the song “Kathleen Mavourneen?”

Re: Begins with M?

Any chance it might be Mulqueeny’s?

A wonderful unforgettable hornpipe

All the best

Re: Begins with M?

Morven it is, thanks MadSweeney! As someone else pointed out earlier, I was thinking it might involve the Irish “mh”, and nobody seemed to know how to spell it when I asked.
Thanks everyone for posting all these lovely tunes too, these look like fun to play!
