The nice thing about good instruments is that they are “equity” -- you don’t lose anything by the purchase, you just go from liquid funds to something slightly more challenging to buy Guinness with.
@wotamite: I would suspect that your are not alone in the Irish flute-playing clan. There’s going to be a heap of soul searching and financial calculating in the next few days.
The flute has been sold -- I ended up selling it through Craig’s List to someone who saw this thread. That was the best case scenario from my point of view, because I will be handing over the flute in person. These flutes are so precious that I really didn’t want an anonymous sale over eBay.
Today I exchanged cash for the flute, sad to see it go, but I hardly played it over the last decade. I will say that cash is a poor substitute for actually owning an Olwell flute, but said flute is in good & young hands, and I am sure it will have a happy life. I was especially happy to be able to hand over the flute in-person to its new owner.
