Charlie Piggot polkas
Anybody got names for the polkas?
Anybody got names for the polkas?
The first one is Joe Bane’s https://thesession.org/tunes/3227.
That one is “usually” followed by https://thesession.org/tunes/3230 (another Joe Bane’s polka).
(And then Jackie Daly told us that Joe Bane would go back into the first polka for one more time.)
But the Piggots don’t follow with the second Joe Bane polka.
Thanks ithaca-markb!
The second polka seems to be this one https://thesession.org/tunes/4158 .
(Check the X: 3 setting.)
Anyone have a name for the last polka? Reminds me a wee bit of ‘Campbell’s Farewell to Redcastle’
The last Polka is We Won’t Go Home Till Morning
https://thesession.org/tunes/3887
The tune search tool here on the session is very literal.
I searched for polkas with DEFG or with D>EFG or with D>EF>G and didn’t find We Won’t Go Home
but if you search for D>E FG you will find it.
The dotted rhythm D>E and the non-dotted FG and the space between them are all necessary.
So the lesson is, when searching try all sensible variations on how it might be written.
What if the Piggots saw this thread, and saw posts clamoring for them to make a duo recording of traditional Irish tune playing, and then made one??!???
Yes, start clamoring!
In the meanwhile listen to some more playing by Charlie: http://pipers.ie/source/gallery/?galleryId=1052
