Central Texas Sessions

Central Texas Sessions

With retirement just around the corner, my wife this year and me the end of next, we are narrowing down our options for relocation.

We’ve visited Texas many times, and are very interested in the area around/near New Braunfels. Hold your comments please on the summer weather….we have plans to spend the summers in Ireland, at least for the most part.

I’ve been looking at the session options in that area. I see that all of them are on Thursday nights. My question is…..why? Why are they all on the same night? Or am I seeing it wrong?

Thanks for your input.

Re: Central Texas Sessions

I can’t tell you why, but you’re not wrong.

Re: Central Texas Sessions

Get in contact with Ken Fleming who is the director of the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat or John Liestman of the Houston School of Irish Music (see web sites for contact info) and they will be able to help you.

“I can’t tell you why, but you’re not wrong.” Same here… I have to go back 20 years or so since I frequented such events, and that was in North Queensland (Oz), but yes, come to think about it, most of the regular ones were on Thursday night. There must be some reason.

Re: Central Texas Sessions

Could it be that a lot of people are paid on Thursdays? Just a thought; I’ve had a number of jobs when payday was a Thursday

All the best

Re: Central Texas Sessions

You live in Australia like me Brian, and here at least, I think you have a point. I don’t know what it’s like nowadays, but going back a while, paydays seemed to be mostly on Thursday. All mine where at least. Also back in Townsville (Nth Queensland) we held fortnightly folk club nights every second Thursday, which coincided with the Austudy payments made to to uni students (our biggest followers). I wonder if this relates to Texas and elsewhere. Or is there some other reason?

Re: Central Texas Sessions

My bet is, Thursday is not:
Wednesday (church night)
Friday (gig/high school football)
Saturday (gig night)
Sunday (church/pro-football )
Monday (pro-football)
Tuesday (work night, too busy/too tired)
