Humourous, happy, or romantic traditional songs

Humourous, happy, or romantic traditional songs

I’ll be playing some trad tunes at my sister’s wedding this summer, and my other sister has offered to sing a song or two whenever I need to take a break/grab a bite. I’ve found a few that might suit, but would like to give her a good list to choose from. The songs would need to be doable unaccompanied. She might have a friend singing with her but that’s all.

Here’s my list so far:

Never Wed An Old Man
Do You Love An Apple
Come Me Lads
My Lagan Love
Eileen Óg

There might be some absolute gems I’ve not heard of yet, or of course she might not like some of these, so I’d like to gather a couple more and send her a nice selection to choose from. Thanks for any suggestions!

Mick McGuire. It’s an humourus Song about courting and wedding.
As long as Mr McGuire is courting his beloved Kate her parents like him because he owns a farm, but after the wedding they change their mind, “ Just because he spend the legacy his father left behind”.

Hi Heydiddle

A hilarious unaccompanied song, involving the audience, is
“The Blackbird’s Lament”

All the best

Not sure of the title, but “The Night The Old Dun Cow Burned Down”. The chorus starts “There was Brown, upside down, lickin’ up the whiskey off the floor”. A bit racey if there are youngsters in the audience, but very Irish and very funny. And then there is “Mr. Done” (Mr. Dunn?).

The close shave is very funny, as sung by Andy Irvine.
