A little peace amidst the virus chaos

A little peace amidst the virus chaos

Greetings,
If this is not allowed, I’ll understand if it’s deleted. Remember, I’m new to whistle since Christmas and new to low whistle since the middle of February so I make no claim to be good - just want to share something positive with our communities.

Great, Dawn, and some lovely pics there! Thanks.

Re: A little peace amidst the virus chaos

This is lovely Dawn!
I look forward spring and butterflies. Longer days and now we find ourselves in such a scary difficult situation.
I am also new to tin whistles.
We need more of these. Maybe I get the courage and do a recording of myself later on. I get so nervous when I record myself!
The butterfly is the tune which made me want learn more.
This is the first time I ever write here 🙂
I just couldn’t pass on this one.
I hope you all well. Stay positive where ever you are and play more tunes.
Dawn you are doing great!

Re: A little peace amidst the virus chaos

thanks Dawn I’ve always liked The Butterfly [both the tune and the creature] never understood why some folks get sniffy about it!

Re: A little peace amidst the virus chaos

Dawn, thanks for sharing this record. I appreciate both the intent and the melody.
I should keep my tunes simple and clean, like your sound.
Nice job ;)

Re: A little peace amidst the virus chaos

Well done Dawn - if you’re only learning since Christmas you are off to a flying start. The Butterfly is a lovely tune. “Fig for a Kiss” goes beautifully before it in a set. When I was learning this tune I used to play along with this version on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn4Qwr-xA4w - lovely slow playing to start and building tempo.

Re: A little peace amidst the virus chaos

Nice one dawn.
Your whistle playing reminds me a little little like Micho Russell.
He had his own style which was nice. I met him in Doolin over 30 years ago and enjoyed not only his playing but his company too
So Dawn keep up the practice and soon you may be playing in a session

Re: A little peace amidst the virus chaos

Thank you, everyone, for the lovely comments, for the butterfly image and the tune suggestion. I have listened to the Flo Ryan video and been amazed by it. Such a beautiful piece of work on each instrument.

I enjoyed the butterfly immensely and have been faithfully working away on Fig for a Kiss. I really appreciated the suggestion that it fit well with Butterfly. I’ve wondered more often how to fit tunes together and how to choose which tunes to learn next. These two do sound very nice together.

I think that perhaps as long as I’m sticking with a low whistle, that I will end up playing more of these slip jig pieces only slowed down like an air. It just seems to fit me - slow-ish and comfortable 🙂 and I guess, in this day and age, comforting.
