Ben Lennon Rip

I just heard the sad news that Ben Lennon has left us. May he Rest In Peace.

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

Very sorry to hear that. I enjoyed the several recordings he made over the years, a great ambassador for Co. Leitrim music, and he could always be found at the heart of a good session at the Willie Clancy week. RIP.

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

I had the great pleasure of meeting him and hearing him play at Willie Clancy Week last year. A great character, a gentleman and a wonderful musician.

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

I have a beautiful book "The Tailor’s Twist" about Ben Lennon
with many many photos that I just looked through.
Tonight, I will play along with "The Natural Bridge"
https://thesession.org/recordings/578 , one of my favorite records.

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

@ithaca-markb: Listening to that very album as I write.

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

So sorry to hear this news. Ben, you were a wonderful fiddle player. And a wonderful personality! And when you smiled or laughed, your whole face creased up and those twinkling eyes… So glad we had a tune and spent time with you in Kiltyclogher last August. Always treasured being in your company. RIP. And condolences to all your family

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

So sad and quite a shock. I also love "The Natural Bridge", will be listening to it today. RIP and thanks for the music.

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

Also, ‘Dog Big, Dog Little’ is a great recording. Ben had a lovely natural drive in his playing. Great spark!

Here’s a notice about Ben’s death from RTÉ.

And another from The Journal of Music.

The Irish Times will probably have an obituary tomorrow, so in the interim here’s an article from 2007 which pays tribute to him in part.

Here’s my own local newspaper’s contribution.

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

I have been following Cathy Jordan’s song a day on Facebook at 5pm BST every day: she sang a song in his honour today, Lovely Leitrim. She has since posted other pics and video on her Timeline, so if you’re into Facebook, take a look.

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

Very sad to hear, my parents were great friends with Ben and Rossinver Post Office was always a great place of welcome when I was up that part of Leitrim, RIP Ben, an absolute gent, condolences to the family.

Re: Ben Lennon Rip

About six weeks ago, before the lockdown, I had the distinct honour to play in a session in Poitiers with Maurice Lennon, who, like me, now lives in France. I don’t know if he was able to get back to Ireland before the lockdown but I hope so.
My sympathies and condolences to him and all his family.
We have lost a great fiddle player, they have lost so much more.
