Want 3rd tune recommendation for making a set with “The Red Crow” and “St. Kilda Wedding” (4th setting on this site)

Want 3rd tune recommendation for making a set with “The Red Crow” and “St. Kilda Wedding” (4th setting on this site)

Hi.

I’m not quite an intermediate mandolin player.

I found some tune sets with the Red Crow and some with the version of St. Kilda Wedding that I particularly like (the 4th setting on this site), but nothing with both. I read lots of discussions here about putting tune sets together but I thought maybe it would be ok if I asked for suggestions - I have no preconceived idea about what would be first, second, or third, I just have it in my head I’d like a set of 3, and that The Red Crow and St. Kilda Wedding ought to be 2 of them.

Thanks.

Try The Musical Priest in Am. should work well. Good luck.

Hi, Susan. I hadn’t even considered the origins. I have heard that can be an invitation to get flamed here, so thank you for being so nice about it 🙂

(I hope “why not end w MacArthur Rd in E” isn’t like the Session’s version of “Bless your heart”, lol)

Thanks 🙂

I went from “a 3rd song” to taking all of the suggestions.

Red Crow (as found here)
insert a dotted half note low A to the pickup to….
Musical Priest (Am version suggested here, but moving the 1st repeat sign after the pickup). On the repeat of the C part of Musical Priest, I changed the last quarter note to the pickup to…
Bank of Ireland (last version on this site).
St. Kilda (4th setting here) to…
MacArthur Rd (in E, currently leaning toward the 1st version on this site because it seems the easiest and I’m still just learning). The first time through I play the 1st note an octave below (the same low B St. Kilda Wedding finishes on), but the 2nd time through I play it as written.

That will keep me occupied for the next couple of weeks.

Thank you both.

(PS I probably mixed a lot of things that more knowledgeable players frown upon, but I’m just trying to learn while playing stuff that sounds nice).
