Elusive ‘Hugo’s’ Jig

Elusive ‘Hugo’s’ Jig

Any of you lovely folks know where one might find notes for this jig titled Hugo’s?
Can’t seem to find it on this site or anywhere for that matter, except for this great performance by the JP Trio on YouTube.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Amazing! Thanks a bunch NfldWhistler. Some great transcriptions, these are going to keep me busy today.

You’re welcome Barra!

It’s a nice tune. Will probably spend some time later trying to figure out a whistle-friendly version.

Re: Elusive ‘Hugo’s’ Jig

X1 should be playable as written on a typical D whistle, as the tune doesn’t go outside the range of the instrument.

Try using the Bb cross fingering

and see where it gets you. You may have to shade the open hole a little bit if the Bb comes out too sharp. Tricky to do at speed but certainly possible.

Good luck

Re: Elusive ‘Hugo’s’ Jig

Thanks MP.

Yeah, I’d be much more inclined to play it in Emin, or use a C-whistle for a Dmin setting (so Emin fingering equivalent anyways). That unfortunately introduces high-d’ fingering for a few notes, which is possible on some whistles, but isn’t all that kind to play nonetheless. Hence wanting to adjust the tune to fit the whistle range a tad bit better.

Playing as is, with a D-whistle, could be possible with alternative fingering (and plenty of half-holing for Fnat’s) as you say. It would be a bit awkward, especially at speed, and you’d lose out on those nice bottom-D rolls as well. Thank you for the suggestion though, wouldn’t have thought to try cross-fingering for Bb’s.
