De Dannan jig?

De Dannan jig?

could anyone confirm that the jig titled ‘Conlon’s’ on Star Spangled Molly is in fact Happy to Meet, Sorry to Part?
I checked the Conlon’s here on the Tunebase and its a totally different tune. I don’t know if back in the day someone decided to wilfully mis-title tunes, in the same set they call Ed Reavy’s Love at the Endings ‘The Head of Cabbage’………….?

thanks Kenny!

Re: De Dannan jig?

Yes, I can confirm this.

I doubt it was *wilfully* mis-titling tunes, exactly - probably just not knowing the title and making one up. The first tune may have been associated with a musician called Conlon (perhaps P.J. Conlon, given that the album draws heavily on the 78rpm era), in which case Conlon’s is a perfectly legitimate title (although not especially useful, as the said Conlon probably had more than just the one tune in his repertoire - not to mention all the other musicians called Conlon).
