O’Flaherty (Virtual) Retreat

O’Flaherty (Virtual) Retreat

Hey all! Some of you have been to the O’Flaherty’s Retreat in years past, in Texas. It’s always been one of my favorite times of year–it’s where I’ve learned and grown the most as a trad musician, and it’s loads of fun.

This year, for obvious reasons, the retreat is going virtual. I’ve been volunteering to help put it on, and I think it’s going to be an amazing time, despite being different from usual. AND, as a bonus, that means it doesn’t matter where you’re located! Those of you who aren’t in Texas can join in the fun without having to travel.

The instructor list is crazy good this year, and includes James Keane as a special guest:

You can register starting today:

While there is no rush to get lodging this year, you might want to register as soon as possible to get the live Q&A with the instructor of your choice. The number of virtual students in each course is unlimited, but the live Q&A is limited to the first 15 participants.

You can choose a few different options, as far as what to register for; it’s super easy to go through the registration and pick the stuff you want, and the options are explained in more detail here:

BTW, if you don’t have the funds, please don’t let that stop you; there’s a scholarship process:

Re: O’Flaherty (Virtual) Retreat

Thanks for posting that, Ian! And best of luck with the festival! We’re doing Portal Irish Music Week virtually this year, too. But it’s an order of magnitude smaller than O’Flaherty. (It’s been more work than usual, though, putting everything together!) I had a ton of fun teaching at O’Flaherty a few years ago. Looking forward to coming down there again one of these days!

Re: O’Flaherty (Virtual) Retreat

Already signed up!! I’ve attended several O’F retreats in the past and can attest to it being the best organized and best run Irish music camp available, at least on the N.A. side of the pond. The organizers of the 2020 virtual retreat have put a huge amount of work into it to make it the best virtual camp too.
