WARBL + "Celtic Sounds" iOS App at Poway Gazebo Session

Trying out the WARBL USB MIDI wind controller and my "Celtic Sounds" iOS app at our weekly socially distanced session at the gazebo at Old Poway Park near San Diego.

The WARBL can easily be played under a mask and has a tiny airflow, literally a pinhole, as compared to real whistle. Playing with my iPad connected to a small battery powered Roland amp:

Good man Michael.

Re: WARBL + "Celtic Sounds" iOS App at Poway Gazebo Session

This is great but I don’t think it will work for my community of musicians or I think most for that matter.

Still, I’m interested to know if you could define low latency within some range - CPU and audio interface. I’m a windows guy. If this is too difficult I understand but I would like to learn more about this part. Even a good link would be a nice start. Thx

Wrong discussion - sorry about any confusion.

@Jwiseman
Ooops - I responded to a mistaken comment.

That’s a pretty great Covid solution and you’ve definitely tweaked it to perfection. I have a WARBL and am very impressed with it, but can’t play it as well as a whistle. There’s also as I’m sure you know a WARBL mouthpiece tube with no vent hole at all, so no air would escape.

Your "Celtic sounds" app is terrific, BTW

Re: WARBL + "Celtic Sounds" iOS App at Poway Gazebo Session

Yes, I use the vented hole when playing whistle, find it impossible to use the unvented tube for this purpose.

Hark!, I have some optimized pressure thresholds for the whistle configuration that make it feel almost exactly like my Copeland high D, would be happy to pass them along if you send me your email in a private message.

Re: WARBL + "Celtic Sounds" iOS App at Poway Gazebo Session

If you are using an older version of the WARBL firmware, the most recent 1.8 changes the default MIDI note-on velocity from 64 to 127 (it’s an option), which will make it possible for me to get rid of the amplifier I needed last night, and just use the sound directly from my iPad Pro, it’s finally as loud as a real whistle.

Re: WARBL + "Celtic Sounds" iOS App at Poway Gazebo Session

This is a really interesting device and looks to be pretty affordable. I’m a little confused about the "bag". It seems that it can play in different registers based on pressure but maybe I’m missing something. There’s no bellows or blowpipe. Is the "bag" completely sealed so that the air never leaves and it can just detect the pressure changes from the elbow?

Re: WARBL + "Celtic Sounds" iOS App at Poway Gazebo Session

That is correct, when using the WARBL controller in its bagpipes configuration, the bag system is completely sealed and just used for pressure detection. There is no need for a bellows.

Demo using the WARBL in the bagpipes configuration with the Uilleann Pipes setting on my “Celtic Sounds” app as the sound module:
