Re: Late Late Show - Trad Music

Thanks, that was great.

Re: Late Late Show - Trad Music

This was awesome and yes, “it’s a natural therapy!” I miss our sessions, I miss playing! 🎻

Re: Late Late Show - Trad Music

By about 2:20 Frankie looked like he was about to get up and punch Donal Lunny for strumming across that set of reels 🙂

Re: Late Late Show - Trad Music

Well, Donal Lunny is a very different zouk player to the late Alec Finn - not worse, just different, maybe Frankie still hears Alec in his head…………..

Re: Late Late Show - Trad Music

Frankie may have been experiencing an unbalanced version due to studio acoustics. However, I think the choice to pull Donal’s playing to the fore in the finished recording would have been made by the RTE sound engineer, though maybe "someone" paid him/her off.

Re: Late Late Show - Trad Music

Thanks, I was looking for these!

Re: Late Late Show - Trad Music

Or if you have an hour and a half to spare you could watch the whole show ("Join Ryan Tubridy as he chats to familiar faces from the worlds of showbiz, sport, politics and more"), it’s available (worldwide, it says - works from the UK anyway) for another 28 days from RTE at
https://www.rte.ie/player/series/the-late-late-show/SI0000001694?epguid=IH000401108

This includes a post-Trump interview with James Comey, promoting his new book, and a chance to win a prize for guessing the title of a Garth Brooks song … but the session starts at about 43:30 and ends at about 1:13:30. At least you get to hear the first note of Louise Mulcahy’s start to "Maids of Mount Cisco’, which someone managed to cut out of the clip on youtube. And a brief clip of Planxty playing on The Late Show 49 years ago to the day.

The star performers’ chat topics include ways of coping with lockdowns and isolations: Muireann’s intro to the Munster Jig, is "… Monster Jig, for all the little monsters at home". Not your average session, not your average chat show.
