Another RIP… but that’s how it is.
Pianist Dorothy Hogan died in Montreal in the early hours of Sunday morning, of lung cancer. She was 70. Dorothy (or Dorothée as everyone in Québec calls her) was an important figure in the Québécois music scene, and a charming lady and a great person to make music with.
I’ve just posted the lovely waltz "Hommage à Dorothée" - a standard in the Fench-Canadian repertoire, composed for her by her former companion, the famed box-player Philippe Bruneau.
It would be nice to know it’s being played even more widely. Maybe she’ll hear it, somehow.
PS What I posted may not be a definitive version but it’s pretty close - the best I could cobble together from web sources and my own hearing of the tune.
PPS Smokers - please give up. This is the second musical friend I’ve watched dying from lung cancer, and it’s terrible to see.
