strange Owen Hackett’s Dream variant?

strange Owen Hackett’s Dream variant?

I was writing out a jig that I learned off a session tape I made in the late 1980s or 1990s and realised that I had no name for it.

Searching Tunes here by typing in various fragments the match that kept coming up was Owen Hackett’s Dream.

However the tune from the session tape, though having a 1st part quite similar to OHD has a different 2nd part.

The part of me that hates the posting of inaccurate variants of tunes with known composers lost out to the part of me that wanted to put the session-tape tune out there to see if anyone could shed light on it.

Here it is, the last version on Owen Hackett’s Dream (though I suspect it might be a different tune)

Re: strange Owen Hackett’s Dream variant?

That looks like a setting of Jackson’s Jig https://thesession.org/tunes/1610 , recorded by Michael Coleman, among others. Owen Hackett’s Dream has a similar first part, but Jackson’s pre-dates it by a couple of centuries.

This is called Hogans Jig on Tod Denman and Dale Russ’
Reeds and Rosin
Just happened to hear it today. The Bb tracks on this recording are great.
Also called Hogans Favourite in the Ennis book.

Re: strange Owen Hackett’s Dream variant?

Thanks everyone! That’s it.

Since Jackson’s Jig and Owen Hackett’s Dream are regarded as separate tunes here, is there a way to delete my setting of Jackson’s Jig from the Owen Hackett’s Dream thread?

Re: strange Owen Hackett’s Dream variant?

@Richard D Cook: I don’t think we, as non-administrators, are able to delete submissions. You’ll need to contact Jeremy, who can either delete your setting or transfer it to the correct tune page.

Thanks, will do.
