Re: What is this Tune ?

I don’t recognise it, but has some similarities with The Longford Tinker.

Re: What is this Tune ?

This one might be tricky to find, did you try asking them on facebook, did they all play it, or just one of them.

Re: What is this Tune ?

Agree.
I’ve never heard it before. It’s not showing up here or on the Norbeck pages.
I think all 4 played it. It was in a set of three:
Sailing Through Loughrea - Maid in the Cherry Tree and this unknown tune.

Thanks I can ask them.

Re: What is this Tune ?

I think it’s Jenny Dang the Weaver, which is on Forgotten Gems as "Patsy Touhey’s Rip the Callico" (but I believe on the 78rpm or wax cylinder of him playing it he did call it Jenny Dang the Weaver". They’re playing it down in Emin instead of Bmin, I guess.

Nico.
I think you might be right.
Even though its heavily disguised/altered in the process.
I much prefer the low growl of the Em version.
Great
Thanks

Re: What is this Tune ?

I’m pretty sure I’ve heard this setting fairly recently. My "inner radio" plays this at moderate tempo, on low whistle and fiddle. Mike McGoldrick & Dezi Donnelly?

Re: What is this Tune ?

Perhaps add it to Jenny Dang The Weaver in Tunes?

I just looked, there are at least two rather different settings (different tunes?) there already.

Was "Re: What is this Tune ?" ( Donal a Phumpa )

Turns out it’s called "Donal a Phumpa"
Thanks to Chris Hamblin who has documented the VBS tune sets.

Re: What is this Tune ?

Hmm, both are reels and both are played in G. That’s about it. I don’t hear a lot of similarities between the tune you posted and the Donal a Phumpa in your link. Does anybody else?
