Muted or ghost notes marked with an X in ABC?

Muted or ghost notes marked with an X in ABC?

I’m working on transcribing some banjo variations, and hitting a wall in the ABC documentation. Does anyone know how to replace a note head with an “X” as in a muted triplet? All I’m finding online is the method to place parentheses around the note, not the X notation. I could do it in MuseScore, but I’d prefer to stick to ABC for simplicity. Thanks!

Re: Muted or ghost notes marked with an X in ABC?

Using abcjs, !style=x!A will do this, so this will work here on this site. There is also style=rhythm, normal, triangle, harmonic. This is not standard ABC, it’s documented in “subtractions from the standard” in the abcjs docs.

If you’re using abcm2ps/svg, you want %%deco:

%%deco head-x 0 dsh0 0 0 0 % X head
X:1
L:1/8
K:Bb bass
zC, .C,2 !head-x!C,!head-x!C,!head-x!C,!head-x!C,|

And there is another approach for SVG in the abcplus manual using the %%map directive.

Perfect, thanks Calum! I was using EasyABC, so the abcm2ps method did the trick.
