Every time I saw him he played ‘Generation’ whistles.
I would have said the same, but apparently not always - see circa 20mins :

Yeah, he played a Generation C, I believe, in the Planxty 2004 live concerts, as well as a Burke D. He will have played Generations on the recordings I assume, as there wasn’t much else around.
@Kenny - I think it’s a red-top Generation. If you look while he introduces the tunes, at exactly 19:20 the red top is clearly visible. What makes it look like another make later on is, I think, some insulating tape around the bottom of the head - right where Generation Cs always crack when you try to loosen the head!
Just shows you don’t need to waste money on all the expensive whistles. Liam sounded great on his Generation whistle.
You’re quite correct, Stiamh, I hadn’t looked that far back, just looked at his playing. The camera doesn’t lie, eh ?

True, but it’s also important to realise that Liam had the skills to know when he had a great whistle. I know a good Generation from a great one, now, but I also know Killarney will make me a damn fine whistle and I won’t have to go looking for it.
