Headset microphone for flute and whistle

Headset microphone for flute and whistle

Hi

I checked the old discussions about microphoning whistles and flutes. But most of them are realy old and i guess there are some new recomondations and ideas.

I’m looking for a good headset microphone and a receiver for my whistles and flute. I have a lot of problems tomstay at a point all the time and i start dancing around the mic as soon i start to feel the tunes.

I found good recomondations for the AKG C 477, but they don’t produce it anymore. The AKG 555 L looks a litle bit heavy.

Do you guys have some experience with that topic?

Re: Headset microphone for flute and whistle

Would it not be better to have the mic attached to the instrument? With a cable to a wireless transmitter on your belt or wherever.

Re: Headset microphone for flute and whistle

@joeEvans: i have to much different whistles, and i don’t like to change the mic all the time and have to adjust it again.

Re: Headset microphone for flute and whistle

That makes sense then!

Re: Headset microphone for flute and whistle

I’ve had an old Audio Technica headset for years. Since I lost the box years ago I’ve no idea what model. As I recall it wasn’t expensive and I still use it all the time. If I know I’ll not be singing, talking, or switching instruments I may use an AT lavalier mic held on to the flute by a clip on tab I fashioned from a thermoplastic and a little gaffer tape. Neither are out of my price range cordless.

Re: Headset microphone for flute and whistle

Sorry to hijack but on the flute tech side, has anybody tried a Mike and headset to be able to hear the flute in a loud session?. I find that if it’s really loud i can’t hear the flute enough to keep it blowing in tune. Embouchure slips a bit, and I think if I had effectively a ‘monitor’ headset it might be useful.

Re: Headset microphone for flute and whistle

I can’t think of any reason why it wouldn’t. Mic to some kind of headset amp, I used to have one for electric guitar, to headset or even a single earpiece (like a talking head on TV news) that wouldn’t interfere with what you hear from the other players,

Re: Headset microphone for flute and whistle

not cheap, but I’ve always been a fan of countryman mics; they have a number of headset types.

to be able to hear the flute in a loud session

That’s been brought up for many years. The consensus on the old Woodie-L was to wear a baseball cap - the brim will act like your monitor. Yes, it does work. (Eventually your playing will allow you to hear yourself, too, but this works a charm meanwhile.)
