I am looking for ideas for Christmas gifts. What would you suggest are the best ITM album releases in 2022?
Thanks for any suggestions.

If you’re a concertina fan, “B”, the second solo album by Cormac Begley was released earlier this year and is amazing.

The Boston group “Ship in the Clouds”:
Anna Colliton: Bodhrán
Laura Feddersen: Fiddle
Nathan Gourley: Guitar
Natasha Sheehy: Button Accordion

And the follow-on album by Nathan and Laura: “Brightly and Darkly”:

I second “B.” The CD ‘case’ is really beautiful too which is nice for a gift.
Also second “Brightly or Darkly” by Nathan Gourley & Laura Fedderson which I’ve been listening to constantly since I discovered it a few weeks ago.
Quite enjoying Pólca 4 at the moment

Personally, Padraic Keane’s ‘In Full Tune’ - instantly one of my absolute favorite piping albums!
I’ve also really enjoyed the Cormac Begley & Nathan & Laura releases.
I also bought the recently released Diarmuid O Meachair ‘Siul na Sli’ album. Haven’t given it a close listen yet, but it sounds very promising.
There was also a new release by Sarah Ghriallais, whom I think is one of the best living sean-nos singers.
And there were 2 double-disc collections of older fiddle music from Mairtin Byrnes & Con Cassidy.
Oh, and the ‘Lark on the Strand’ album from Seosamhin Ni Bheaglaoich, Charlie Piggott, Gerry Harrington, & Peter Browne… I’m sure there are plenty more that will come to me.
edit: couple more - Bua’s ‘Foscadh on mBaisteach’ really good group album & Eoghan O Ceannabhain’s ‘The Deepest Breath’ a really interesting album if you’re into the newer young Dublin folk acts.
Breda and Claire Keville - Music from Galway: https://custysmusic.com/collections/latest-releases/products/breda-and-claire-keville-h4-music-from-galway
The albums from the last year which I have enjoyed the most and would recommend are:
Nathan Gourley and Laura Feddersen: “Brightly and Darkly”
https://thesession.org/recordings/7614.
Tara Breen and Pádraig Rynne: “Nasc”
https://thesession.org/recordings/7334
Téada: “Coiscéim Coiligh”
https://thesession.org/recordings/7571
Liz and Yvonne Kane: “In memory of Paddy Fahey”
https://thesession.org/recordings/7638
Also the Blackwater Céilí Band: “Northern Landscape”

Adding my vote for Ship in the Clouds, although <dons Hat of Pedantry> it was actually released in 2020.
But as long as the net is widened I’ll speak up for The Glory Reel from 2019, likewise representing some of the best of the Northeastern US Irish trad scene:

Happy holidays all!
I don’t know about the best CDs, but “Hat of Pedantry” is for sure a great name for a tune!
Seamus Egan just released a very nice seasonal album, Good Winter. Also, the lively debut release, Frenzy, by 3 On The Bund.
Thylacine by Austral, was the most exciting CD I heard released this year.
