Scholarship available in Musical Instrument Research at the University of Edinburgh

Just a heads up on something that might interest somebody! I’ve spent many a busy day in their collections. And it’s within staggering distance of Sandy Bells pub!

Re: Scholarship available in Musical Instrument Research at the University of Edinburgh

Does ‘the history of making and playing uilleann pipes in Scotland’ (there are a few sets made here in Edinburgh’s collection and in the collection held by the piping museum in Glasgow) sound like the start of a master’s thesis?

I may attempt an application. Why not? But someone with a PhD and two masters degrees trying to find new and ingenius ways of avoiding a real job is probably not their model candidate.

I dunno Doc. They may see your qualifications as some form of guarantee. And the topic would be a good one. Go for it.

They do have a wonderful collection of instruments! But I gave up multiple diplomatosis some 40 years ago too. And I have a Fellowship but too old to give up my retirement now!

One has to get into the MSc music program first. Oy. I had a look at their faculty and none seem to have any focus or interest in traditional music.
