Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Happy St. Patrick’s day! Post your favorite tune(s) to play, and one you’re currently learning below:

My favorite to play would be Wizard’s Walk/Tommy’s Tarbukas/Cape Classico. Currently learning Chicken Reel.

Happy St. Paddy’s day!

Re: Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I had a look to see if there were any tunes here with titles like “Farewell to the Snakes” or perhaps “The Snake’s Lamentation”, but no.

Not a single tune with the word “snake” in the title at all.

Which I guess confirms the legend, in a way.

Patrick was an efficient mofo.

Learning Rathawaun right now and enjoying one of the John Walsh polkas a lot.

Re: Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

This morning I went around to my usual neighborhood haunts, to play them a tune or two, to mark the holiday. It’s a new tradition for me, started just last year. This time it was hornpipes: Mrs. Dwyer’s and Poll Ha’penny. Well, except at the veterinarian’s office. A whole slew of young female assistants and technicians came out from the back rooms to watch me play, and eventually their comic dancing was just too distracting, so I couldn’t finish the second tune. A happy St. Pats, indeed!

Re: Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day one and all! On whistle/flute I’m a beginner and trying to figure out (after learning and loving Humors of Whiskey, Kesh Jig, Kilfanora Slide and a lot more in baby steps) the whats and whys about sets and singles and jigs and reels and slides and slip jigs and hornpipes. (so, that’s where I’m going, right now.)

Our house was a riot on St. Paddy’s day. Washington D.C. the AOH and crew at the piano, singing every song and more through the night. My Mom always called March, the Irish Month and she meant it to the bone.

I never replicated the green mashed potatoes with coins wrapped in tin foil for my kids. Sadly, some traditions just didn’t make it to the next gen. Slainte!

Re: Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I marked the day by teaching five guitarists who don’t play Irish to accompany The King of the Faeries. It sounded really good.

Special thanks to Ross Faison. He’ll know why 😀.

Re: Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Totally unrelated to St. Patrick’s Day, but having this Music for a Found Harmonium-craze again, I practiced the tune in Ab and A on my C#/D accordion. Then a bunch of other tunes originally in other keys but today in Ab and A. Why? Because they are there. Tomorrow: Bb and B.

Re: Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Played all new tnes I learning on both mandolin and whistle, and getting my flute next month. Happy Patty’s day, Slainte!

Re: Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Playing a pub date today for the overflow from yesterday.

Cheers!

Playing as a multi-instrumentalist trio (pipes/whistle/flute/box, fiddle/box, and guitar/concertina) tonight (Mar 18th) for a private party gig that other than during the COVID lockdowns, we’ve done every year going on 15 years. My favorite gig of the year. Yesterday I just sheltered in place.
