Bringing in the Green

Bringing in the Green

I came across “Bringing in the Green” as a counter-melody to “Bodmin Riding March” among a heap of papers with various tunes on them. I have since lost the sheets which included the composer’s name. Can anyone, please, shed light on who wrote the tune or have any more info on it?

The ABC below gives an AABB structure but the original was simply AB.

That Cornish trad site is brilliant. I didn’t know of it. Cheers TBFCC.

Re: Bringing in the Green

Bringing in the Green, for working traditional Irish musicians, has reference to St. Patrick’s Day.

Somebody had to say it.

Re: Bringing in the Green

Thanks for your replies. However, it does seem that, so far, no one knows much about it, so I’ve added it to the tune database to see if anything comes up. Also, I think that “Bringing in the Green” stands in its own right as a pleasant little tune.

Re: Bringing in the Green

Heard on its own it sounds to me more like a composed countermelody than a trad tune. But maybe a tune tweaked into that role.

Re: Bringing in the Green

Yes, it’s definitely a composed countermelody - the sheet I found it on had the composer’s name.
I’m hoping to find that name.
But I still like it by itself.
