I searched here for recommendations for mics especially clip ons, but the existing discussions are multiple years old, and I’m guessing there is newer technology and more recent users. Thanks for your thoughts.

As you may or may not have gleaned from perusing the archives, folks here have historically had a somewhat complicated relationship to the bodhran, and for that reason I’ve been half-expecting a reply to your query along the lines of ‘Any microphone that makes the bodhran quieter’, but maybe those days are gone by. I play with a someone who uses bodhran microphone onstage and I’ll inquire what she uses. In the meantime, I’m familiar with Meyers pickups line of on-instrument preamplified mics (they are pretty good on guitar) and I see they make one specifically for bodhran.
Hopefully some actual players will chime in too.

Another option: AKG C519M. My friend uses an older model, the C419 which may be available used. Designed for woodwinds and percussion.
I’ve been using a cheap Yoga D606 drum mic for a couple of years, and it seems to do a pretty good job. Mine is a custom 22" bodhran, so theres plenty of room for it mounted on the cross bar. It would clip onto the shell if it was thin enough.
