Looking for a Hammy Hamilton Flute
Hi, I am looking for a Hammy Hamilton flute, either a keyless or 3 keyed, if anyone knows where I might find one. I’m in Cork.
Thanks

Does it have to be a Hammy? There’s a Sam Murray 3 keyed on the Irish Flute Store.

Cheers and hope you find what you’re looking for.

Have you asked Hammy? Even though he might have a closed order book, he may know of a customer who is selling one, or Hammy could be refurbishing something (for instance keyless traded in for keyed). I mean, he’s in Cork (well, Cúil Aodha, Macroom, Co. Cork), you’re in Cork.
@melmo : Hamilton flutes are large-hole Pratten-style, with a unique tone that can cut across a session well. Murray flutes are Rudall-based. Each has its proponents.
@Lucky485 : An alternative might be commissioning a flute from Michelle Brophy, who trained with Hammy, and has her own workshop in Newfoundland, Canada. She has attractive pricing in CAD$. I don’t know how easy trade & taxes are between Canada & the EU/Ireland.

I have also found a used Seth Gallagher flute to be a good comparison to a Hamilton.
@kkrell fair enough. Just seeing if someone needed a 3 keyed flute.
I’m also intrigued by Michelle Brophy, never heard of her but a keyed flute in the $3000 range is very attractive! If I weren’t in line for my keyed Windward I’d have a serious look at her flutes (maybe a future endeavour).
Cheers,

I had Hammy make me a flute in 1987 when I was in Ireland at that time. He made me a keyless D flute using blackwood he’d acquired from Crowley’s in Cork. I have hardly played the instrument and have moved to playing Low D whistle - I have a Hammy Hamilton Low D/C/Eb set.
What would you consider a fair price for the flute you are seeking? I was in Ireland in Feb/March and am planning my next trip to Ireland this September/October which will include visiting relatives in Cork so could bring it then.
Someone is selling a keyless D Hamilton on another forum:

My mother is selling her Keyless Hammy Hamilton flute. Made in the mid nineties.
She is in East Cork.
Let me know if you’re interested.
