Spreading the word!

Spreading the word!

Once again we seek to probe the collective mind of thesession.org members who have been very helpful in the past. As some of you already know we have been hosting Irish traditional music holidays for the past 3 to 4 years and we have been steadily growing our business. Many of our guests have remarked that we should really be more proactive in spreading the word about the holiday as it went way beyond their expectations. We don’t want to go down the road of an expensive ad campaign as the cost would only be placed onto our guests. Does anyone have any suggestions for ways to advertise and spread the word via internet or otherwise? To date we have posted on some Facebook pages, our You tube channel and here on thesession.org. We would appreciate everyone’s input!
Many thanks, Joe and Adele.

Re: Spreading the word!

Have you paid to advertise on FB? It’s dirt cheap and you can target our market area, age group, etc. For example, $5 USD could get over 5,000 to 10,000 views.

Re: Spreading the word!

Thanks Jayhawk, we will definitely look into this! Good wishes, Joe and Adele.

Re: Spreading the word!

I’d post in Reddit and related subs. r/irishmusic, r/fiddle and other applicable folk-instrument subreddits. You could also spend a little bit of money to advertise in those subreddits too.

I don’t know what the exact etiquette here is, but I think a few posts could be warranted in case someone misses it.

Re: Spreading the word!

Thanks so much Vechey, this is a very good idea that we hadn’t thought of.
Good wishes, Joe and Adele.

Re: Spreading the word!

Oh, if this is the person, I think it is, I am very glad that you posted here, and very glad that I saw this post! I believe I read about what you were offering a few months ago, and didn’t think that I was ready for it at that point, but now that I am feeling more ready, I went back to find the post I had seen in the Facebook, traditional Irish music group, and was unable to do so.

Oh, I think doing a biweekly or monthly post highlighting something about your offerings would go a long way for getting the word out there, as well as reminding people that you exist, which is such a crucial part of any kind of business venture. I know different forums will have different norms about this sort of thing, but as long as you are not aggressively spamming, and not contributing anything else to the communities, you were advertising in, that you will be in good shape, and your posts will be welcome.

I will vouch that the experience is worth every penny!

Re: Spreading the word!

Tiktok is the most popular social media app right now, and it has a broad reach compared to Facebook and Youtube.

Re: Spreading the word!

Always! I don’t know a lot about Tiktok myself, it’s new generation stuff. The kids use it, and them and some of my audience from busking kept recommending it to me. What I do know is, I’ve only posted one video on the platform, and while the same exact video only got over 100 views, 4 likes, and no subscribers on Youtube; On Tiktok it got over 900 views, over 40 likes, and got me over 40 followers. This is interesting considering how saturated Tiktok is with content. However, if I remember correctly from some light research, the story is that autoplay short-form videos(which Tiktok specializes in) are more accessible because people are simply more likely to see them. This is why platforms like Facebook and Youtube both have adopted shorts in recent years.

Re: Spreading the word!

Good luck, I hope you reach out more Irish music fans.

Re: Spreading the word!

Thanks Jerone, this is very helpful. We are dinosaurs when it comes to TikTok but we are definitely going to give it a go. Many thanks, Joe and Adele.

Re: Spreading the word!

I would also encourage anyone interested in one of Joe and Adele’s holidays to go ahead and book. You’ll have a really warm welcome, lovely countryside and visits to a variety of sessions featuring players of different levels of ability who all really enjoy playing. You’ll return full of enthusiasm and a long list of new tunes to play.

Re: Spreading the word!
