LoopTube - Practice tool for slowing down and looping phrases in YouTube videos

I’ve released an updated version of my tool I built specifically for practicing tunes I’ve found on YouTube.
You can load any YouTube video by pasting in the URL or YouTube ID.

It allows you to set loops around phrases in tunes, slow them down and loop continuously.
When you’ve got that phrase down, you can advance the loop forward by the same amount of time allowing you skip to the next phrase.

Sharing as I think those who learn by ear might find it helpful.
It’s inspired by tools like Amazing Slow Downer, Transcribe, Anytune etc. but using YouTube for easier/quicker accessibility.
It’s particularly useful when you find videos that include tab or visuals of hand positions.

What a fantastic idea - I’ve just tried it, and it’s very easy and intuitive to use. I’ve only recently discovered your Tunesource site, which is another useful tune learning tool.

The resources available when I first started learning (a partially dissolved book that I’d left out in a thunderstorm, and my granddad mouth-whistling tunes for me) look Neolithic now. 😆

Looks like a great idea - pardon my evident stupidity but how do I get to the page where I input the clip I want to watch?

Debroos, just copy the url of the youtube video you want, and on Taranis’ page paste it into the “YouTube ID or URL” box above the video.

Is a pitch adjustment feature possible at some point in the future?

Pitch adjustment is not something that I can add easily as Youtube doesn’t provide a way to do it in their API.
I’ll have to think about other ways it could be done.

Another feature I’d like to add is provide a way to allow you to search YouTube within the app so you can avoid copying and pasting the YouTube url

Yours is easier to use, in my opinion, but I still find it harder than necessary to set the start and end points of the loop. I would like to drag the markers on the progress bar for rough positioning and use the +/- buttons for fine positioning.

Yes that’s a good point about being able to drag the markers to set the loop points… on the todo list!

Hey, this is fantastic and thanks for the tool! I agree, being able to drag is a neat idea but I also do like the ability to move the segment forward. That’s brilliant.

This is a useful tool. I’ve given it a try while learning a reel - the looping and speed controls definitely make repeating a segment straightforward. Good work

Very good! I haven’t tended to use videos much. This makes them much more manageable!

Boy, aren’t we the most pampered musicians on the planet? Tunepal; Folk Friend; EasyABC; The Session; Chiff & Fipple; various tuners including Flutini; other resources I’m no doubt overlooking, and now Looptube.

It does tend to blow your excuses though! “I couldn’t get that second note in the second part” just isn’t going to cut it….
